Tips for
Starting
a Home Business or
Work-at-Home Program
Check out these tips to serve as your guide as you consider starting a home business or work-at-home program.
1) Once you've determined WHY you want to work at home, then decide what type of income is best for you at this point in your life.
This is critical because until you know what type of income you need right now, you won't know what programs to look at and which ones are a waste of your time. We all need both at some point in our lives, but this comparision will help you choose what's best for you right now.
- Do you want to be paid once for the hours you
work (like a job)? If so, you're looking for LINEAR INCOME. The advantage of LINEAR income is that it's usually available as soon as you start working. The disadvantage is that it stops when you stop, which means you're constantly trading hours for dollars.

- Do you want to be paid over and over for the
hours you work (like the royalties that
songwriters and authors earn)?
This
is RESIDUAL INCOME. A disadvantage of residual income is that you might not make as much in the beginning (depending on the program). But...the GOOD part is that once the money starts to flow, you're actually overpaid for your efforts, which means you benefit from the law of diminished effort. (I've been receiving residual income now for over 13 years for work I did when my kids were younger, so I know this concept works.)
2. Treat your efforts like a major project and develop a simple plan of action without getting in a hurry. I refer to this as having a MAP (Managed Action Plan) to go by.
Starting a home business or home job usually requires
a lot of time and effort; be prepared to do your
homework. There are several good programs available for moms, but you
need to allow enough time for your application process and any necessary
police checks, special equipment, specialized training,
testing, etc.
So do yourself a favor and look at starting a home business like you would a project. To do this, I recommend that you put together a simple MAP to guide you through your plan of action with an actual an actual start date and completion date. Also include the amount of money you want to start out making, how long you're going to work the program, and what your income goals are.
If you're starting a home business or work-at-home program because you
just quit your job and have no money to pay your bills, you're going to be under a lot of pressure, and that's not good. Usually speaking, In a desperate situation, you'll either wander along aimlessly and
NEVER change your future OR you'll get in a hurry and "nickle
and dime" yourself to death, falling for every little scam
that comes along.
My advice to you, in this case, is to look for a regular job FIRST so
you can at least pay your bills. (Or at least check out the work-at-home programs that focus more on building LINEAR income right now.) Once things start looking up for you, THEN you can look at starting a home business or work-at-home program that focuses more on RESIDUAL income so you won't have to work your job forever.
And always keep this in mind...
Building residual income takes a lot of work too, just like anything else of value in life. The difference is that it's well
worth the effort IF you take time to do it right because you'll eventually be paid far MORE than what you're worth for doing something you really love!
3. Remember
that COST doesn't always = SCAM.
Just because a program costs money doesn't mean it's
dishonest or not reputable. (This
IS true in some cases, however, so be sure to read my warning below.)
I've found that every good program I've researched - whether it's a job program or
business opportunity - has at least "some" startup costs that must be paid.
(I'm surprised at the number of moms who want a six-figure
income for NOTHING. What if doctors and lawyers had that
mindset?)
Always remember this cold, hard fact...
If you want to earn $1000 a week or more, you have to
rise above a lottery mindset and be willing to invest in
yourself and your future!
And now for my warning...
Any person, company, or program that asks you to pay for exclusive information is
often (not always) a waste of time and money. In most cases, the internet and
your local library will provide you with all the information you need
on the subject of starting a home business or working at home. Every day hundreds of dollars are spent
online by moms who are searching for a home business or work-at-home program, so they end up buying into the promise of "secret"
information, "private" job listings, online directories, or
lists of employers that are standing by ready to hire you.
So PLEASE BEWARE!
I hope this information helps you. If you'd like my input on a particular program you're checking out OR you want to know what company I've been with for the last 14 years, feel free to contact me or simply request that I contact you about starting a home business.
